I don’t think you can be focused on, ‘Oh gee, I want to make a difference.’ It has to be spontaneous. If it’s not…there’s some kind of egotistical thing going on. That’s a red flag. You hope you impact people on the deepest level you are capable of at the time. Sometimes you hit it, sometimes you don’t. You’re trying.
It’s one of life’s great mysteries isn’t it? Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a God watching everything? You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don’t know, but it keeps me up at night.
Actually we don’t need to know “why” we are here. We only need to know that we “are” here now. Can we put our beliefs to the test? Yes, in every moment of the life experience. We all create our reasons for existance, or not! We are one little drop in the ocean that is our world. Our intent is to flow with everything that “is” in the moment, keeping in mind that we contribute to the whole or not, it is a choice. What we choose to believe is a choice, how we put our beliefs into practice is a choice, how we live our lives in each and every moment is a choice. We do not need to know any more than that to sleep peacefully at night.
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, and to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up. When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed. Give freely to the world these gifts of love and compassion. Do not concern yourself with how much you receive in return, just know in your heart it will be returned. It’s not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something.May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of person kind, bringing hope to the lost and love to the lonely.
Remember this. Hold on to this. This is the only perfection there is, the perfection of helping others. This is the only thing we can do that has any lasting meaning. This is why we’re here. To make each other feel safe. Some strive to make themselves great. We help others see and find their own greatness. If you’re not making someone else’s life better, then you’re wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other lives better. Life is not about receiving. It’s about giving, knowing that someone might learn, understand or grow that little bit from the experience.
We know that we can’t do all the good that the world needs. But the world needs all the good that we can do. Hence, there’s a reason we do what we do- Jigyaasa, Let’s grow together..
